If you are looking for a fun and subtle way to add a little bling or rider personality to your show horse, this post is for you. Learn about horse braid charms and see some ideas for adding them to your ride.
Horse Show Fashion Loves Tradition
If you have been horse showing for any length of time, you likely picked up on the pomp and circumstance that goes along with it. Certain traditions, including how to dress, what tack to use, etc, are very much alive and well. Smaller, local shows tend to be a bit more lapse on these “rules,” but the bigger (and especially the rated) shows follow them much more strictly.
Subtle Ways to Show Personality in the Show Ring
Even though tradition suggests a fairly flare-less appearance in the horse show ring, there are some subtle ways to show off your personality while showing.
Some examples include:
- Horse Show Ribbons (worn in braids by youth riders)
- Simple jewelry (post earrings, basic necklace chain, etc)
- Small charm in horse’s mane braids or tail
- Riding socks in fun designs
- Colorful yarn in pony’s mane braids
- Small charm on saddle or bridle
Horse Braid Charms
Small charms are a really fun way to sneak a little bit of personality or theming into your horse show attire.
Your charms can reflect different things:
- Horse’s name
- Rider’s name
- Favorite hobby
- Time of year
- Favorite animal
Whatever you can think of!
Charms would be more appropriate for smaller shows or opportunity classes at bigger shows. Keep that in mind!
Where to Buy Charms for Horse Mane Braids
You can find charms at many different stores! Charms can be purchased individually or in big packs of charms. Here are some suggestions for charm shopping:
Where to Place Charms
Charms can be displayed in a variety of places. These places include a braid on the mane, on a tail braid, to the saddle or even the top of the bridle.
Again, focus on less is more. Charms should be SMALL and SUBTLE. They should not attract attention or be obnoxiously in the way. You never want a charm to be placed anywhere that might scare your horse or make him uncomfortable.
